On behalf of our entire CCG Team, we are so honored to celebrate this milestone of 1,000 ambitious women in The Love Your Work and Life Ladies private (and totally free!) Facebook group today with you all! I am so inspired by this community and every single one of you. I was talking to one of my clients in this group last week (shoutout to Tamara Wells) and she shared that she scrolled through to check out all of the new women in this network and was so impressed by the variety of job titles, levels and industries in this group. We may not all be doing the same type of work but we face many of the same challenges, frustrations and career desires. Our common thread is that we are looking for our callings, not just a paycheck and we are all motivated to be the best employees, entrepreneurs, women, mothers, wives and friends as we can possibly be. Lets keep up the journey and keep sharing tips and advice, asking questions and building a group that builds each other up and helps each one of us make our career and life dreams a reality. Sending lots of love from Iowa! Anna

Your Health Take Control of Your Doctors Appointments

Your Health Take Control of Your Doctor’s Appointments What did the doctor say? Can you answer this question after your appointment? It happens to most of us in the doctor’s office: we seem to lose our memory.  A study at Allegheny College showed how extreme this can be: patients remembered only 25% of the information provided immediately after the appointment, and less than 15% one week later. All women must understand their health and their healthcare choices. Here’s how to stay focused and get what you need out of your doctors appointments. Make the right appointment When you call the office, tell them the reason for your appointment. Annual health checkups are different from appointments to address pain, a cold, or other symptom. Help the office plan enough time for you by being specific. Come Prepared On the day of your appointment, know exactly what you want to talk with your doctor about. Write down your symptoms and your questions before the appointment and bring the list with you. Arrive 15 minutes early to address any paperwork, and be prepared to wait if the doctor is running behind. Her other patients are discussing their health. Educate Yourself This is especially important if you have a chronic or serious condition. Use reputable sources like WebMD, the UK’s NHS or your national patient association (the American Heart Association is one example).   Your own doctor is a far better clinician than Dr. Google, but it’s still your health. Ask your doctor’s office to recommend sites you can trust. During your appointment Be honest. This is no time to hide that extra glass of wine on weeknights, or your chocolate habit. Your doctor needs accurate information to help you stay healthy. Remember that list of health questions? Write down the doctor’s answers. If you are not sure about the answer, repeat it back to her or ask a follow up question. If you’re dealing with something potentially serious, bring someone you trust to listen with you. What the doctor says and what you understand can vary. A second pair of ears helps, especially in an emotional situation. We all need to manage our own health. Getting the most from your doctor’s appointment is one way to do that.

Todays Thought Sells Tomorrows Plan - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Todays Thought Sells Tomorrows Plan - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career While many companies believe they are planning for the long-term, they are actually taking the short-sighted viewpoint.  The missing element is considering the potential ramification(s) for every new action to be implemented. By reading the business news, we entrepreneurs may learn many free lessons of what to do along with what not to do.  The perfect example is of a recent story concerning Japanese companies that made a seemingly straight-forward decision to only later find it brought about far-reaching devastating results. What happened? In their desire to cope with the economic downturn, and as firing employees became a necessity, Japan slowly but surely let go of their male workforce retaining only the women. The initial reasoning behind this decision was these companies paid their male employees more than their female counterparts. They would save much money by retaining the female staff. It is true the company cash flow increased and empowered the women. They became more self-reliant. This sounds great until you come to terms with the larger chaotic effect this one decision had on the entire Japanese economy. The idea of balance or not putting all of your eggs into one basket was completely ignored Men and women hold different perspectives. A business will benefit from receiving input from many viewpoints on all aspects of business. Instead the Japanese companies threw this opportunity away.  Additionally, no one ever gave thought to the fact that because the women are paid much less than the men, they have far less discretionary money to spend. Hence, their entire economy suffered. Delving deeper into the study, Japan was known for their innovative electronics industry. These new consumer items are normally expensive requiring a healthy salary in addition to which they primarily appeal to the men. But with the male population let go, few were left to purchase the electronics. Their electronics industry is now suffering from lackluster sales. Instead the Japanese women are more focused on travel to “get away from it all”, cosmetics and accessories turning the tables previously lucrative industries. Even though these newer industries may be faring better, they still are seeing less in sales due to the lesser amount of spending money available. The one decision to lay off the men badly affected Japans economy in multiple ways and defeated any gain those individual companies may have initially seen. As you consider tweaks in your business plan or major changes, take the time to analyze the what if scenario first.  Determine how each change may affect your day-to-day business as well as the long term. How will your business development effort change and ultimately affect your branding effort?  How will it affect your intended clientele? For additional help, ask your peers to play devil’s advocate to get into the possible deeper ramifications for how your change might negatively affect the outcome. The thought you initially put into a decision will provide a far more positive outcome. Your personal brand will speak volumes to your intelligent business approach and integrity. This further empowers your branding effort that will attract increased attention and opportunity. You will be enjoying the Smooth Sale! Writing a PhD Thesis Resume

Writing a PhD Thesis ResumeThe purpose of writing a thesis resume is to sell your degree. It is more difficult to get a job without a resume, but it's easier if you know how to write a thesis resume, as it allows for you to attract potential employers who might be less likely to accept an academic advisor based on a CV.Thesis resumes are similar to academic resumes. In fact, when applying for any type of job, you'll probably find that they both require a bit of application and research. A thesis resume also differs from an academic resume in that it is usually a single page that covers one course (e.g., English) rather than multiple pages that may cover two or more courses. There are many different types of thesis and dissertation resumes. While there are several different formats for each, the general idea is to take advantage of the available space to convey the most information about your degree and education, and to offer the most relevant skills for the job.Thesis resume formats vary greatly, so you'll want to consider a few things before you start. Do you have an on-line degree calculator that you can use? This will be invaluable when you have several degrees that will need to be put on one page. It will also help you with the formatting and size of the font size, since the calculator can usually only handle font sizes that are slightly smaller than what is used in the computer.Your current job and employer may also be a factor when designing your thesis resume. For example, if you have experience as a support staff member for someone who has been in a position where they've had to deliver printed material, then a printed format can help you present yourself as a competent and capable academic advisor. If you don't have a printed job, you can still create a thesis resume using the paper version of your diploma, just keep in mind that you'll still need to format it for a professional resume. Additionally, don't forget to include contact information for your university or college so that potential employers can call you for an interview.Outline your course in as much detail as possible. You can use a thesis or dissertation outline to define your project. Make sure that you know what you are getting into before even starting the project. This is especially true if you have already written a dissertation for a previous semester. In this case, don't just make a quick outline; write a couple of chapters and have a career counselor review the outline before you begin.Keep in mind that when you write a thesis or dissertation resume, you'll want to take some time to look at the project before you get started. Just because it is called a 'dissertation' doesn't mean it is going to be easy. Take your time to read through it carefully, and make sure that you have as much information as possible before you actually start. Use the outline as a guide, but don't let it dictate how the work is done. Remember that it is your thesis, so use it as your g uide but have some personal input as well.Writing a thesis resume should not be as difficult as it seems. Take your time and be sure to take advantage of every opportunity to add personal information about your knowledge and achievements.

Personal Development Is Dying

Personal Development Is Dying What happens to the training budgets and staff when a company is in financial trouble? They are cut, right. What kind of budget does a small company (1-100 employees) have for training there workers on soft skills? Where is the average employee getting their soft skills training today? Are colleges and universities specifically developing self-awareness knowledge in their curricula? These are the questions we need to think about and answer. We need leaders. We need good employees that wont leave due to poor management or unhealthy work cultures. This cant change unless we invest in the personal development of our workforce. Ive worked for a large law firm and smaller companies and I can honestly say that I have only received soft skill training once. OK, maybe twice, if you call Diversity Training soft skill development. If this is indicative of what others have not experienced, we are all in trouble. How do we expect to have a company of innovators and strategic leaders if we havent taught them how to communicate effectively with different personalities or if they dont know how to manage their emotions? Do we expect a one-time seminar or workshop will fix them? So maybe it isnt about training per se, but about building a mentoring program which would supply regular feedback and coaching and development. Emotional Intelligence is a key factor to an individuals success in life and the job. Where are we supposed to go to learn how to develop our Emotional Intelligence? Todd Bavol of Adventures of the Job Search Ninja wrote a super post about Emotional Intelligence and if you are wondering what it is, here are the five elements as he simply defines them: Knowing your emotions Managing your emotions Self-motivation Recognizing and understanding the emotions of others Managing relationships or, to put it another way, managing the emotions of others These are the areas we should be developing. Improvement in these areas will make us better, stronger, more employable, better innovators, better leaders. Or so I think. What are your thoughts? Where is this training happening?

Take a Career Change into Charity Fundraising - CareerAlley

Take a Career Change into Charity Fundraising - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. In 2012 the annual BBC Children in Need (see Celebrities launch BBC Children in Need 2013) night raised 26,757,446 to continue their work for another year. This was a record-breaking success and, with the 2013 show just around the corner, they are no doubt hoping to do the same again. Similarly, in seven years of running, over thirty celebrities went on Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and between them raised 2,892,000 for various charitable causes. These are impressive, large-scale campaigns that have done a great deal of good for their collective causes, but there are over 168,000 charities in the UK alone, how do they all survive? Most of them rely on volunteers, even the big organisations like Children in Need. But they also rely on a fundamental core of paid staff. Of these paid roles, the most important are jobs in charity fundraising, because, without funds, charities couldnt continue their work. A career within a charity enables you to provide support for volunteers, to generate ideas, and to keep track of the money. Many people would describe working for a charity as a uniquely rewarding experience. It gives them the opportunity to work at an organisation in tune with their ethical values and to feel like they are really making a difference in the world. Jobs in charity fundraising allow someone to do something good, and to see the impact of their work in the work of the larger organisation as well as being able to be creative and have a flair for new ideas, putting pen to paper and getting things done. The truly admirable thing about all of this is that there is such fierce competition for jobs in charity fundraising. People are actively striving to get into this industry, often encouraged by friends or family who already do, and who reap the benefits of job satisfaction that come from doing charitable work. If this is an area that you have thought about, then why not talk to TPP Not for Profit Recruitment to help you land that dream job. They specialise in not only sending the right candidates for the right roles, but finding the right type of organisation to land your desired charity job.
